Introducing Snapshot v2: A new interface for enhanced DAO governance

Snapshot Labs is excited to announce the beta release of Snapshot v2, a new interface to start the evolutionary journey of a product that the web3 space has gotten to know so well.

Governance is more than voting. As the most used tool in DAO governance, Snapshot is expanding in order to provide more of what DAO communities need, in one place.

The vision for Snapshot v2 is to unite the governance flow on one platform. We want to reduce the friction that DAO participants often have to endure when moving across each step of the flow: discussion, delegation, voting, and execution. Our aim with this product is to weave these activities together into a seamless experience; saving users time and eliminating the disconnect caused by switching between multiple platforms.

With this first release of Snapshot v2, we’re giving you a glimpse into what the future will look like, as we continue working to ship new features and enhancements.

What’s new in Snapshot v2?

Discussions

Clear and open community discussions are not only key to making good decisions, but they also serve as a valuable knowledge base for DAOs. We thought it was important to bring discussions into the Snapshot v2 experience with a Discourse integration:

  • Discussions view: Browse the latest discussions happening on your DAO’s forum directly within the app.

  • Proposal discussion: See a proposal related discussion within the proposal page directly.

Delegation

Vote delegation is a key mechanism for maximizing participation in DAO governance and giving weight to the most closely involved and informed people. We wanted to make this process more simple and straightforward, as well as making it easy for the most active participants in governance to be recognized by the community:

  • Delegate dashboard: Visualize and sort the complete list of DAO delegates based on voting power held or by number of delegators who have granted their votes to each delegate. The delegate dashboard support both ERC20-Votes and delegate registry based delegation systems.

  • Delegate statements: Delegates can submit a personal statement, which is viewable by the community.

  • Leaderboard: Easily recognize the DAO members who have created the most proposals and casted the most votes.

Voting

Voting in an active DAO can become a burdensome job. We want to make it as easy as possible to be an engaged DAO citizen by providing tools that streamline the process:

  • Proposal feed homepage: See all the proposals from the space you’re following directly in the homepage when you log in, making easy to curate proposals.

  • Vote from the feed: Cast your vote directly from the feed for proposals using basic voting.

  • AI proposal summary: Get a quick overview of what a proposal is about.

  • Audio playback: Listen to proposals if you prefer audio or are on the go.

  • In-app support: Rather than chasing people down on Discord, contact the Snapshot support team directly in the app via the Intercom widget.

Execution

As with voting, we have aimed to reduce the heavy lift of creating a governance proposal in the following ways:

  • Draft system: Manage one or multiple drafts proposals before publishing.

  • Read-only execution: Add transactions to a proposal even if the DAO don’t use oSnap or SafeSnap, this is making it easy for voters to review the intended execution. The execution is non-binding but can be easily exported to a Safe for execution.

  • Treasury log in with WalletConnect: Log into any web3 app with your DAO’s treasury using WalletConnect and magically populate transaction into a new governance proposal.

  • ETH staking with Lido: Insert a Lido staking transaction directly into a proposal with the click of a button, eliminating the manual work, technical barriers, and security concerns that come with adding onchain transactions into governance proposals.

  • Better treasury support: Manage a wider range of assets, including NFTs.

  • Contact list: Save addresses to use when creating proposals or transactions.

Give it a try!

Snapshot v2 is available now at snapshot.box.

We are using a Box domain, the world’s first top-level domain that is fully manageable onchain. Learn more.

Please share your feedback via our in-app support widget as we work to make improvements and fix any issues. Snapshot v1 is still live by default at snapshot.org and we will merge Snapshot v2 into the Snapshot.org domain after a 2 month testing and optimization phase.

Looking ahead

We will continue to ship new features that enhance the Snapshot experience, so stay tuned. Hint: something exciting is coming very soon!
